56. December 29, 2020 - I spent many days researching the correct onomatopoetic expression for the sound of the oar striking Periphetes face. In order to conduct this inquiry, I first watched every episode of the 1960's Batman series and the corresponding film, taking rigorous sound-effect notes. Then I took a wood of appropriate density and struck random objects in the yard. For example, a strike on oak is KRAK. A strike on concrete is BRUNK. A strike on a cat is MUUP. The sound of a strike on a beehive is drowned out by my own screaming. I settled on WHAP.
